Want your live to reach your audience on social media too? With restreaming, you can broadcast to Instagram Live, Facebook Live and Youtube at the same time you're live on Terrific: no extra software, no extra hassle. Here's how to set it up in just a few minutes. 🎥
Restreaming to Instagram
First things first: we need to grab two little codes from Instagram: the Stream Key and the Stream URL. Think of these as the "address" that tells Instagram where to find your stream.
Heads up: you'll need a Creator account on Instagram for this to work. If your brand profile isn't set as a Creator account yet, just switch it over first. It only takes a minute.
1. Open Instagram on your computer:
2. Click "Create" on the left-hand menu
3. Select "Live video":
4. Give your event a title:
5. Then choose Practice Mode (if you're just testing things out), Public Mode (if this is the real deal) or Close friends (if you want to stream to a limited group):
6. Hit Next and there they are! Your Stream URL and Stream Key will appear on screen.
Copy both of these somewhere safe, you'll need them in the next step.
Restreaming to Facebook
Want to go live on Facebook too? The process is very similar — you'll just need to grab your Stream Key and Server URL from Facebook this time.
1. Open Facebook on your computer and Click the Live Video icon:
2. Select Set up live video:
3. Choose Streaming software:
4. Your Stream Key will appear under the "Streaming software setup" section:
5. To find your Server URL, click Advanced Settings:
Copy both of these and save them somewhere handy: you'll need them to set up your stream on Terrific.
Restreaming to YouTube
Going live on YouTube too? Same idea here: you'll just need to grab your Stream Key and Stream URL from YouTube before setting things up on Terrific.
Heads up: your YouTube channel needs to be verified with a phone number, and YouTube Live needs to be enabled. If you just enabled it, it can take up to 24 hours to become active.
1. Go to your YouTube channel and click Create:
2. Select Go Live:
3. You'll be redirected to YouTube Studio:
4. To get your Stream Key, click the copy button on the first section ("Connect your encoder to go live" block):
5. At the bottom, under the "Stream settings" tab, you'll find your Stream URL:
Just like with the other platforms, save both of these: you'll need them to set things up on Terrific.
Set things up on Terrific
There are two ways to add your stream credentials in Terrific: through the Session Details, or directly from the Host screen.
Option A: From Session Details
I. Once your live session is created, go to the Session Details and select Streaming tab:
Don't see the Restream tab? No worries: just reach out to your Customer Success Manager and ask them to turn on the feature for you.
II. Click on the social network you'd like to stream to:
III. If you selected Instagram, click "I Understand" to confirm
IV. Copy and paste your RTMP Server URL and Stream Key from the selected social network into the Terrific platform:
Click "Save session" and that's it: your social network's stream keys will now be saved to the session.
Heads up: these keys have a limited lifespan, so we recommend doing this process about 15 minutes before your live session starts.
Option B: From the Host screen
I. Head into the Live Session screen as a Host or with an Admin account. If you're the Host, you can join through the invitation link you received when the session was created:
Alternatively, both Admins and Hosts can access the session from the Terrific store's Home, under the Live Now block:
II. Go to the Settings tab:
III. In the Multi-Platform Streaming section, turn on the social networks you'd like to stream to:
IV. Copy and paste your RTMP Server URL and Stream Key from the selected social network:
Click "Save session" and that's it: your social network's stream keys will now be saved to the session.
Starting the Streaming
Whether you saved your keys through Session Details or directly on the Host screen, there's one more step before you go live: sending the signal from Terrific to your social networks.
I. Click Start Stream for each social network you have active in the Host view:
II. Head over to each social network and check that you're receiving the signal from Terrific:
Instagram view:
Facebook vew:
YouTube view
III. Once you've confirmed the signal is coming through, go back to the Host screen on Terrific and click Go Live:
IV. Then, return to each social network and start the live there too. When your session ends, make sure to end the live on each social network and on Terrific.
And that's it! Once you've got your keys copied and your platforms connected, restreaming is just a few clicks away every time. If you run into any hiccups along the way, your Customer Success Manager is always happy to help. 🎉
