The Terrific Carousel allows you to add vertical video formats to your website to gamify the user experience, deliver a social media-like experience, and maximize your media and business performance.
Accessing your carousels
1. In the left sidebar, click Carousels. You land on the Manage Carousels page.
2. Click the Settings button on any carousel:
Once inside, a breadcrumb at the top of the page lets you navigate between three areas: Carousel Settings, Carousel Preview and Embed, and Assets Configuration.
General Settings
The following tabs will be displayed in General Settings, which we will describe below:
Tab 1 - Basic Settings
Configure the carousel's core identity: its name, timing, appearance, and ordering logic.
A) Carousel name. internal name of your carousel.
B) Launch Date. Schedule when this carousel goes live.
C) Cover image. Cover image associated with the carousel.
D) Language. Sets the carousel's display language. Options: English, French, Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, Portuguese.
E) Order type. How your carousel sorts content. We have 3 types:
Smart Carousel: The algorithm orders assets automatically based on visitor behavior and entry points. All tagged products are included in the Smart algorithm.
Manual Carousel: You control the order entirely, via drag & drop.
Timeline Carousel: Assets are sorted automatically by timestamp: newest first. Ideal for editorial content or ongoing social feeds.
Tab 2 - Behavior & Display
Control the look, feel, and load behavior of your carousel.
A) Product Display. Choose how the product info and video/image are arranged on each card. Three options:
Top:
Bottom:
Split:
B) Auto-Play Carousel. Automatically scrolls through cards to keep viewers engaged. Recommended: 2–3 seconds between cards.
C) Light Network Loading Mode. Only the cover image of a video is downloaded up front. The full video loads just before playback. Useful on pages with heavy content or slow connections.
D) Asset CTA Button Colors. Set a background color for the call-to-action buttons that appear on individual assets, separate from the Product Card colors below.
E) Product Card Colors. Customize the colors for Background, CTA Button, and Sponsor Badge on the product card.
F) Asset Background Style. None (to keep default color), Color (choose Primary & Secondary), or Image (good for sponsorship). Add a Timed rule to apply a different style at specific times.
G) Polls Background Style. Default background style for poll cards: None or Color.
Tab 3 - Redirect & Links
This section lets you send visitors to a dedicated page when they click on the carousel instead of staying where they are. Useful for driving traffic to a specific campaign or category page.
How it works: Say your carousel lives on the homepage. When a visitor clicks a card, they're taken to a dedicated vertical experience page and when they exit, they return to that page, not the homepage. This keeps the experience contextual and on-brand.
Click + Add Now to set a redirect URL. You can also set a start date for when the redirect becomes active, useful for preparing a campaign redirect in advance.
Tab 4 - Social Media Sync
Connect your Instagram account to automatically pull in content and keep your carousel fresh without manual uploads.
Click Add Account to configure:
A) User name or Account Link. Enter the Instagram account username.
B) Confirmation box. Check to confirm that you are authorized to use the Instagram account.
C) Type of content. Import Reels, Posts, or both.
D) Country restrictions. Enable if your account is restricted in certain regions.
E) Import Descriptions. Automatically pulls in titles and descriptions from your Instagram posts. Big time saver.
F) Add Hashtags. Only imports content that contains specific hashtags: useful for filtering upstream.
Click Save. An Instagram logo appears on your carousel once the sync is active. Once connected, you'll see for controls per account in the sync table:
1) Run Social Imports. Runs manual import.
2) Import by dates. This option let you import content from certain period:
3) Status toggle. Enable or pause the sync for this account without deleting the connection.
4) Auto Publish toggle. When on, newly imported posts go live on your carousel automatically; no manual approval needed. Turn it off if you want to review each asset before it's published.
Content syncs automatically every 6 hours. You can trigger a manual import with Run Social Imports, but use it sparingly, as it generates extra internal requests.
Tab 5 - Ad Integration
Connect your ad sources to generate revenue directly from your carousel. Terrific supports flexible ad integrations, not limited to a single ad network and lets you choose where ads appear.
Horizontal Carousel
Displays ads inserted within the inline carousel on your page, between your regular content cards. Toggle it on, then configure the number of display slots and set a loading template for the ad slot.
Vertical Carousel
Displays ads inside the immersive vertical experience: the full-screen view that opens when a visitor taps a card. Configure separately from the horizontal placement.
For both types, configuration is the same:
A) Cadence settings. Each section has three controls to define the ad rhythm:
Start showing ads at Asset. Which asset position triggers the first ad (options 1 to 10).
Then repeat every. How often an ad reappears after the first one (1 - 10).
Up to a maximum of. Total ad cap per user session (1 - 20). Leave blank for no limit.
Clicking the Add Another Display button will show the following options:
B) AD DISPLAYS. The looping template system. Displays are configured as a sequential template. When the user reaches the last display, the cycle automatically restarts from Display 1.
C) Format. Where and how the ad renders: Footer Banner (a strip along the bottom of the carousel card, least intrusive) or Full Size (covers the whole card, interstitial-style).
D) Ad Content Type. How you supply the ad:
Custom HTML (Advanced). Paste the full ad tag from your ad server.
HTTPS URL. paste a direct link to the ad (simplest, max 2,000 characters).
E) Add script. The name of the script.
F) HTML. Textarea to paste the Custom HTML. (This field is hidden if HTTPS URL is selected).
G) Device Type. Select between Mobile, Desktop or both.
H) Consent to run third-party code. This option runs third-party code in an isolated iframe controlled by Terrific. It adds an extra layer of security, but some features that require access to your store or browser may not work as expected.
Tab 6 - Sponsorship
The Sponsorship tab is where you enable sponsor branding at the carousel level. This is the right place to configure sponsored or co-branded campaigns where a partner's logo should appear consistently throughout the experience.
You can choose between Horizonal or Vertical carosuel type:
Horizontal Carousel
The Sponsorship in Horizontal version adds sponsor branding to the inline carousel:
A) Sponsor Label. The text that introduces the sponsor. Defaults to "Brought to you by". It appears at the top of the carousel, next to the Top Logo. This is the sponsor's credit line. (max 30 characters).
B) Click Redirect. The destination URL when a visitor clicks the sponsor branding. This is where the sponsor wants to send traffic (their site, a campaign landing page, etc.).
C) Branding. Logos from sponsor.
Top Logo. The logo shown at the top of the carousel, next to the Sponsor Label. Max 2 MB.
Side Logo. The logo shown as vertical strips on the left and right edges of the carousel, framing the row of cards. Max 2 MB.
D) Sponsor Placement Background. The background color behind the sponsor branding area. It offers preset swatches, plus a Custom option for an exact brand color. In your screenshot, black is selected.
Vertical Carousel
The Vertical Carousel sponsorship adds sponsor branding inside the immersive full-screen experience: what the visitor sees after they tap a card and open the carousel. Unlike the horizontal version, it offers two display styles via the Sponsor Type switch: Badge or Banner. Everything else adapts to the type you pick.
Sponsor Type switch. The toggle at the top that chooses how the sponsor branding looks: a compact Badge (a small pill with text + logo, tucked in a corner) or a Banner (a full-width colored bar with a logo). Pick one the fields below change accordingly.
Badge mode
A subtle, corner-placed credit.
A) Badge Title. the sponsor credit text, e.g. "Brought to you by." This is the text shown inside the badge. (Banner mode has no title — that's the main field difference). Max 30 characters.
B) Click Redirect. the destination URL when a viewer taps the badge. Where the sponsor's traffic goes.
C) Badge Logo (max 2 MB). The sponsor logo shown inside the badge, next to the title.
D) Badge Position. Three placement options for which corner/spot along the top the badge sits in. In the preview it appears as a small pill in the top-left of the Media view.
E) Sponsor Placement Background. The badge's background color. Preset swatches plus Custom for an exact brand color.
Banner mode
With the Banner option, the same fields as Badge are available, except for Badge Title and Badge Logo. Instead, you can upload the sponsor's Banner Logo, which will be displayed in the card’s header and footer:
That's everything in General Settings. Continue with Part 2 to configure your Carousel Preview & Embed options.
